Recording at Home: Getting Clean Vocals Without a Studio

You don’t need Abbey Road to sound professional. With the right setup and technique, you can record crisp vocals from your bedroom or uni flat.
Tips:

  • Mic Positioning Matters: Don’t rap too close or too far. Around 6 inches away with a pop filter is a sweet spot.
  • Room Treatment: Duvet behind you, wardrobe in front — you’d be surprised what works.
  • Watch Your Gain: Avoid distortion by setting your input levels properly.
  • Pre-Recording Checklist: Turn off noisy devices, shut windows, check for background hum.
  • Vocal Chain Essentials: Use EQ to clean, compression to balance, and light reverb for space.

Clean vocals aren’t about expensive gear — they’re about intention. Lock in your technique, and your sound will follow.

I say this for the people that are thinking they have to break the bank. Mainly young independent artists, you don’t actually need to go studio to make a tune I promise you, if you’ve got it, you’ve got it. Obviously quality control does matter but i’ve seen people use band lab and make COLDDDDD tunes.
